Year 7 & 8

 

 

  • Section 104: Year 7 & 8 Own Classical Selection Solo

Year 11 & 12

 

 

  • Section 100: VCE Unit 1 & 2 Own Selection

  • Section 101: VCE Unit 3& 4 Heat*

  • Section 102: Year 9-12 Novice Aria Award

  • Section 112: Year 11 & 12 Own Classical Selection Solo

  • Section 113: Year 11 & 12 Legit Musical Theatre Solo

  • Section 114: Year 11 & 12 Folk Song or Traditional Ballad Solo

  • Section 115: Year 11 & 12 Art Song Solo

  • Section 103: Year 7-12 Open Duet or Trio Own Selection

Section 100: VCE Unit 1 & 2 Own Classical Selection

  • Perform one item of your choice in the classical style

  • Competitors must be enrolled in VCE Music Unit 1+2 with Classical Voice as their main instrument of study. 

Section 101: VCE Unit 3 & 4 Heat

  • Perform one accompanied item from your VCE Program in an allocated heat. 

  • At the conclusion of a heat the adjudicator will announce a 1st and 2nd place within that heat. 

  • At the conclusion of all heats, the adjudicator will select the 6 highest scoring performances from across all heats, these 6 competitors will progress to the final. 

  • In the final, you will re-perform your item from the heat, along with two more pieces: a second accompanied song in a language that is different to the first, and an unaccompanied song. This is a total of three songs and a minimum of two different languages to be presented in the final.

  • Competitors must be enrolled in VCE Music Unit 3+4 with Classical Voice as their main instrument of study. 

Section 102: Year 9 - 12 Novice Aria Award

  • Competitors are to perform one aria of their choice. May be from Oratoria, Opera, or Operetta. Any period is acceptable. 

Section 103: Year 7 - 12 Duet or Trio Own Selection

  • Own choice duet or trio. 

  • May be from the classical repertoire, legit musical theatre, or a contemporary work written in a classical style. 

Sections 104, 108, & 112: Own Choice Classical Solo

  • Own choice classical song solo. 

  • Any period is acceptable, including contemporary works written in a classical style. 

Sections 105, 109, & 113: Own Choice Legit Musical Theatre Solo

  • Own choice solo from a musical or operetta. (Arias from an Opera not accepted). 

  • Music be sung in a legit music theatre style. 

  • Must be in costume and character. 

  • Minimal props optional. 

  • Competitors will be given the option to have curtains at the beginning and ending of their musical theatre piece. 

  • Competitors may have another person on stage with them should their performance benefit from dialogue at the beginning or in the middle of the piece. Associate performer must not sing. 

  • Competitors are encouraged to be as creative as they wish in these sections to bring their piece to life. 

Section 106, 110, & 114: Folk Song or Traditional Ballad Solo

  • Own choice traditional folk song or traditional ballad. 

  • May be in any language. 

  • Any arrangement is suitable. 

Section 107, 111, & 115: Art Song Solo

  • Own choice Art Song solo.

  • The work chosen must be performed in the original language for which it was written.
